The Problem: The leadership within the city planning department desired large-scale change in the city’s approach to human waste management toward renewable and less environmentally destructive practices. However, the vast majority of colleagues, constituencies, and relevant workforce were unaware of viable alternative options. In order to build a foundation of knowledge and insight that would fuel the engineering and construction of the planning department’s vision, it was determined that a gentle introduction was needed which would set the stage for more eLearning modules of increasing complexity on multiple levels. The Solution: This course introduces the concept of composting to city planners and municipal waste treatment employees. Specifically, it introduces the concept of human waste composting as a viable option. It is part of a series of eLearning modules aimed at raising the level of awareness and support for scalable alternative solutions to human waste management. Level: This is a level 2 training with modest interactions, animations, and basic subject matter complexity. |
eLearning Sample #2Built in: Articulate Rise 360
The Problem: Wildfires claim lives and livelihoods, often because people involved are not prepared to evacuate with the most critical items needed to resume their lives after the fire. Instead, people panic and make emotional, rather than strategic, decisions. Lack of advance planning results in poor decision making during a crisis. Not knowing what supplies or belongings to take with you when you evacuate results in loss of life and livelihood. The Solution: Create an accessible eLearning course that breaks down evacuation planning into easy-to-follow steps, simple to remember lists, and guidance for how to determine best options based on the learner’s situation and needs. The scrolling functionality of Rise makes it a familiar eLearning tool because it is very like a website. This non-profit, humanitarian outreach project develops in the learner a set of skills and a base of knowledge to be able to effectively prepare for evacuation in the event of wildfire. Highlights: A three-fold Evacuation Checklist to print out and carry, store in the car, etc., that provides a quick checklist to remember the key points of the evacuation planning steps. |

The Problem:
The Company received internal and external feedback that indicated the employees were speaking and acting in ways that colleagues and clients experienced as prejudicial and biased. The company needed to train its employees on the concept of unconscious bias and the practice of identifying and changing bias when they encountered it in others and in themselves. The employee demographic was diverse in terms of age, race, and culture. The population was large and spread out over multiple time zones.
The Solution:
An eLearning course was the best solution, being the most accessible and most convenient. The graded assessment made it easy for the company to monitor successful course completion.
Highlights:
This is an eLearning development sample piece. The associated storyboard from which I developed this course, is unavailable for viewing because I did not create the storyboard. I was responsible only for building the course. This sample is intended to demonstrate my proficiency with reading and interpreting a storyboard, and developing an eLearning course for which I was not the designer.
